People who undergo the surgery usually recover within a week. A bandage or a compression garment is worn for about a fortnight. In case non-absorbable natured sutures are worn, they are removed within a period of 10 days. Swelling and bruising will subside within seven days, while numbness may take a longer time to recover. The effects of liposuction on a human body are visible as swelling reduces.

After the surgery a person should take some steps to recover quickly. He should drink sufficient water so as to avoid dehydration. One should avoid using heating pads or ice packs. Liposuction does help a person to get in shape but it does not guarantee that a person will not gain weight in future. It is advisable that one exercises regularly and eats in moderation to maintain the body shape.
