Facts About Liposuction Surgery
Liposuction is also called as lipoplasty which means fat modeling. Other names given to liposuction are liposculpture and suction lipectomy. It is a surgery used for the removal of extra fat from different parts of the body. The areas which can be treated by liposuction surgery are abdomen, backs of arms, buttocks, falling neck, thighs and many other. The general tools used for the removal of fat are cannula, which is a hollow tube and a suction device called aspirator. The amount of fat removed varies on t5he facts that which method is used, doctor who has operated and also on the patient. The average amount of weight removed is normally less than 5 kg or 10 pounds. The amount of fat which can be removed safely is limited because higher fat removal can lead to risk in the surgery or can even leave scars or dents on the skin operated. In liposuction surgery fewer efforts are required than in dieting and exercise. It is advisable to patients going under this surgery top have a good health and also stop smoking several months before the Liposuction surgery.
Various liposuction techniques
Categorization of the techniques used in liposuction surgery can be done on the basis of quantity of fluid injected and by the working mechanism of the cannula.
a) On the basis of amount of fluid injected. 1. Dry liposuction This method is rarely used today. In this method no fluid injection is used. 2. Wet liposuction In this method less amount of fluid is injected. The fluid injected is in lesser volume than the total quantity of fat which is to be removed. 3. Super-wet liposuction In super wet liposuction surgery, the amount of fluid injected is al most in the same volume as of the amount of fat to be removed. This technique is preferred where high volume of liposuction is to be done. The time taken in the surgery is almost proportionate to the size of the area treated. 4. Tumescent liposuction In this method the fluid injected is 3 to 4 times than the total fat volume to be removed. The time taken is almost equal to the size of area to be treated. b) Mechanisms of liposuction 1. Suction-assisted liposuction. It is the typical method of liposuction surgery. In this process, a small straw like cannula is inserted with the help of small opening. Then it is connected with a vacuum device. The fat cells are broken by the surgeon by pushing and pulling it carefully through the fat layer. In this way fat cells are drawn are drawn out from the body with the help of suction. 2. Microcannula liposuction As the name suggests this liposuction is very small. The incisions or the opening made are also very small. 3. Ultrasound-assisted liposuction it is also known as ultrasonic liposuction. In this process, a special cannula is brought into use through which ultrasound vibrations are transmitted within the body. It is preferred for treating areas which have more fiber like in case of upper back area or male breast. 4. Power-assisted liposuction in this a special cannula is used which have mechanical movement. Therefore, manual movement is not required by the doctor. Other than mechanized movement it is almost same as the ultrasound assisted liposuction. 5. External ultrasound-assisted liposuction This is a type of liposuction where ultrasound energies are applied from the exterior parts of the body or through the skin. The specialized cannula making procedure of the ULA is not necessary. 6. Water-assisted liposuction In this procedure a thin water beam of fan shape is used. This beam breaks the tissue structure of the fat and hence enabling the cannula to remove it.
